Ultimaker 2 Magnetic Base Install Guide
These are the installation instructions for the GeckoTek Magnetic Base for the Ultimaker 2 3D Printer. When you are finished you will be able to use GeckoTek Build Plates without the need for clips or tape.
Read all instructions before beginning the installation process. These instructions do not work with the Ultimaker 2+ or Extended versions. For those, you will need to consult our instructions for the Ultimaker 3.
The install was demonstrated on a Z stage that was removed from the 3D printer. This was done for convenience and to allow for better pictures and is not necessary or recommended.
If you have questions or discover an issue with the installation process please let us know on the discussion page.
Total install time is 5-10 mins.
You will need the following to complete the installation process:
- GeckoTek Robo3D R1 Magnetic Base
- 2.5mm allen wrench (included)
- M3x16mm screws (included)
- Thin Phillips screwdriver
- Small flat head screwdriver
- Pliers or wrench
Step 1: Remove the stock glass build platform by rotating the retaining clips out of the way and sliding the glass plate forward.
Step 2: Loosen the 3 leveling screws that hold the print bed heater on. Remove the thumb nuts and screws and set them aside for later.
Step 3: Using a thin Phillips screwdriver, loosen the screws attaching the power and thermistor wires to the print bed heater. You should not be able to separate the print bed heater from the 3D printer.
Step 4: The front two glass retaining clips will come off with the leveling screws. Using the allen wrench and pliers, remove the screws holding the back two clips on. Set the screws and nuts aside for later.
Step 5: Attach the Magnetic Base to the stock bed heater using only the back two corner screw holes. Use the included M3x16mm screws and two of the original lock nuts.
Step 6: Attach the Magnetic Base with heater attached to the Z-carriage with the 3 leveling screws. Make sure the original leveling springs are in place and use the included M3x25mm bolts. Tighten finger tight with the thumb nuts and Phillips screwdriver.
Step 7: Attach the GeckoTek Build Plate to the Magnetic Base and center it. Then follow the manufacturer’s recommended bed leveling procedure with the Build Plate in place.
You are now ready to 3D Print with your GeckoTek Build Plate!.
